“We’ll carry your cat, your mother-in-law, your dirty laundry and even the Bolshoi Ballet on our Mission Link Bus Service when it kicks off next Saturday (August 22).”

So says John Ellingworth, owner-operator of the new, regular schedule bus service, which will connect local residents, businesses, and holidaymakers from Bingil Bay to South Mission Beach.

Residents have welcomed news of finally having a local bus service, the first since 2011.

Mr Ellingworth’s 24-seat air-conditioned bus is fitted with seat belts and ADR baby and child seats, pet travel carriers, and under-bus lighting to ensure safe boarding and disembarking at night.

“People say it’s about time Mission Beach had a bus service,” Mr Ellingworth said. “We’ve had positive comments from parents who welcome the safe option for transporting their kids to the beach or the skate park, or to and from night time hospitality jobs.”

The plusses for the small community were manifold, from helping senior residents to remain independent and in the community, providing affordable and flexible, safe family travel, helping to reduce the incidence of drink driving, transporting tourists to local businesses and attractions, and protecting wildlife through reduced traffic on the roads.

“The Cassowary Coast Council has recently enhanced sustainable living in our region with the new rubbish recycling initiative,” Mr Ellingworth said. “Now we can go one further by reducing traffic pollution. If you don’t need to drive, catch the bus, the Mission Link bus!”

“We pledge a professional, consistent, on-time, accredited bus service with skilled drivers who know the area, to assist residents and visitors to commute to local events, businesses and services with ease.”

“The success of Mission Link depends upon community support. All going well, we have plans to expand the service once the regular route is established.”

Mr Ellingworth said he was grateful for the support and backing of many businesses in the Mission Beach area.
